I bought this computer online. It was listed for a reasonable price
and described as faulty. Even though the board is from 1978 it sports
the common 2114 SRAM ICs which are very easy to replace compared to the
MOS 6550 SRAM
ICs typically found in the chiclet 2001 PET.
Repair history
Faults: black screen, garbage screen
Replaced 2x ROM using iz8dwf ROM adapter for the PET.
Upgrades / mods
iz8dwf RAM/ROM daughterboard: this machine is now able to boot with
the Commodore BASIC version 2.0, 3.0 or 4.0. 32 KB RAM can be enabled as
well.
iz8wdf bright spot fix. Most of the PET computers display a round
spot at the center of the screen when powered off. This spot can damage
the phosphors of the CRT. Luckily
iz8dwf found a
solution for this.
