This machine belonged to the Raoul’s loot. After the usual replacement of the RIFA capacitors, it showed random behaviours on boot. Sometimes a garbage screen was shown, sometimes the built-in test mode started automatically (and even passed the ROM check!). Contrarily to the classic Apple ][, many of the logic on the ][e is realized using custom chips which replacements are often hard to find. In my case the 344-0010-B MMU was failing, in addiction to one 4164 DRAM. Also, the keyboard was a mess: none of the keys were working and at a first I thought it was another fault on the main board. It took 2 days of work to degrease, clean and make the Alps Long Stem switches functional again!
